Introducing Dr Cheryl Tallon

Dr Cheryl Tallon is a fully registered fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, and has been a registered doctor since 2002. Dr Cheryl also holds further qualifications in skin cancer medicine through the Skin Cancer College of Australasia, and a diploma in Appearance Medicine with the New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine.

Dr Cheryl believes in a friendly, patient centred approach to care, and with her broad experience has an understanding that her patients can feel uncomfortable when seeking medical care. Dr Cheryl aims to provide clear communication, alongside a gentle and sensitive approach to care.

Skin Cancer Screening

New Zealand has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, due to our ageing population, and significant sun exposure.

Here at Lotus Skin, Dr Cheryl provides full skin checks to identify sun damage that either require further monitoring or treatment.

Dr Cheryl provides a top to toe skin check from the scalp to the toes using a specialised piece of equipment called a dermatoscope. A dermatoscope looks at the skin in detail that is unable to be seen with the naked eye. Photos are taken if needed, which are then stored securely on your file.

Yes, you will be asked to remove clothing down to your underwear. Dr Cheryl understands this can be uncomfortable and will do her best to ensure you have privacy. You will be provided with a modesty sheet to cover up areas not being examined if requested.
Dr Cheryl likes to provide a long 45 minute appointment. You will discuss any concerns, and skin cancer risk prior to the clinical exam. Following this, there is an opportunity to discuss the results and plan management, without feeling in a rush.
Dr Cheryl has a fully equiped surgical suite if you wish to have this managed with her, or she can provide a referral to your usual GP or Plastic surgeon.

Skin Lesion Management

There are many ways to manage skin lesions. Dr Cheryl is able to manage benign moles and skin tags as well as pre-cancerous or cancerous lesions. Dr Cheryl will discuss this with you at the appointment.

There are many ways of removing skin lesions such as dry ice (cryotherapy), creams, shave under local, and skin lesion excision.

All medical treatments and procedures carry benefits as well as risks. Always follow the directions of your healthcare professional with regard to any post treatment care. If you experience a side effect, contact your healthcare professional for advice.

Dry ice is a minimally invasive treatment used to treat superficial skin lesions by freezing the skin. This can be slightly uncomfortable but can be completed during the skin check with no/ minimal downtime.

There are a number of creams that can be used to treat sun damage as well as superficial skin cancers. These can be applied at home over days to weeks, with instructions provided from Dr Cheryl.

Local anaesthetic is injected and the skin lesion is removed using a shaving technique
The area of skin is removed completely under local anaesthetic and stitches are placed to bring the wound edges back together.

Appearance Medicine

Dr Cheryl is a fully qualified practitioner with the New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine and provides a number of services.

At your first consultation Dr Cheryl will do a full facial assessment and will discuss your areas of concern with you. Dr Cheryl will then provide you with a tailored suggestion of treatment for these areas, with a full discussion of cost and informed consent. There is absolutely no necessity to have any treatment. If you do go on to have a treatment, then the consultation cost is waived.

Botulinum toxin (often referred to as ‘Botox’) is a highly effective anti-wrinkle skin care treatment that softens fine lines and wrinkles. It aids long-term prevention and is an appropriate face wrinkle treatment for all ages.

It is the #1 cosmetic procedure in the world today and is one of the most well-known anti-wrinkle treatments that can help address the signs of aging. Like any cosmetic procedure however it still needs to be administered with professional care and a high level of skill, knowledge and training as to the structure of the face. Whether you’re concerned about wrinkles around your eyes or on your forehead, Dr Tallon will ensure your treatment is comfortable and effective.

This anti-wrinkle treatment is a non-surgical procedure that involves a small amount of Botulinum Toxin being injected into selected facial muscles using a very fine needle. Most commonly, Botulinum Toxin treatments are done for glabella frown lines (the vertical lines that appear between your eyebrows when you frown) – sometimes called a ‘brow lift’. Each treatment takes about 10 minutes. Discomfort is typically minimal and brief, and no anaesthetic is usually required. The injection may sting for a few seconds but normal activities can be resumed soon after.

Your results will be noticeable in three to 14 days and the benefits usually last around three months. For even greater overall results think about complimenting your anti-wrinkle treatment with one of our dermal filler treatments or collagen induction therapy. To discuss your treatment package, contact us for discreet and exclusive cosmetic medicine advice.

Filler is a gel like injectable expertly engineered from a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid. It is given in small volumes of typically 1ml syringes and injected into specific points on the face to refresh and volumise.

These incredible products enable instant results. They are generally well tolerated, and can be dissolved if the result is not to your liking. The areas most frequently treated with fillers include cheeks, mid-face, chin and lips. This treatment is especially suitable for people with fat loss and sunken or hollow cheeks (which can be due to genetics or weight loss).
